The Alabama Instructional Resource Center for the Blind (AIRCB) provides textbooks in Braille and large print and other educational supplies and materials for over 1,700 students who are blind or have low vision in Alabama’s public and private schools, as well as students and clients served by the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) and Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services. The center operates under an interagency agreement between the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind and the Division of Special Education Services of the Alabama State Department of Education.
The AIRCB is a full production facility with specialized equipment to produce Braille, enlarge textbooks and produce/duplicate recorded textbooks. The center maintains an equipment inventory of specialized educational aids for the visually disabled such as Braille writers, light boxes, audio book players, Braille displays and tactile graphic aids. All materials are available on loan, free of charge, to eligible students and clients who are registered with the Center.
