August 6,2014– As AIDB prepares for the start of a new school year it welcomes a new Director of Transportation, Mrs. Yalonda “Shea” Goree. Mrs. Goree previously supervised transportation programs for the Fayette County Board of Education.
She attended Shelton State Community College and is certified in both regular and special needs education transportation services and conducts training for personnel. As a delegate for Alabama, she regularly attends the Southeastern State Pupil Transportation Conference and is currently serving on the executive board of the Alabama School Transportation Association.
AIDB operates a statewide system of transportation services including local and area daily and weekly bus routes that transport children and adults who are deaf and blind to school and work on various AIDB campuses and locations. AIDB also coordinates services to transport children to their home communities every third weekend during the school year for home visits. Goree succeeds Leslie Mathison in the role who is retiring after 39 years of service to AIDB.
“I love working with students who have special needs,” said Mrs. Goree, “and I look forward to the opportunity to make a difference at AIDB.”
“Mrs. Goree has a great deal of experience and is well equipped in training of transportation personnel,” said Mike Hubbard, Director of Safety and Security at AIDB.
“She comes to us with a strong reputation and a commitment to serving children in the community,” said AIDB President John Mascia. “We are proud to have her become part of the AIDB family.”
“We also appreciate Leslie Mathison for his 39 years of service to AIDB and wish him the very best in retirement.”
Mrs. Goree officially began her new duties as Director of Transportation on August 4.
